A comedic communicator with a brain for business

Though a banker by day, my heart is in the humanities. I’ve always had a natural knack for communication but my degrees in Linguistics and Marketing as well as my extensive work history have positioned me to become a communicator extraordinaire.

In my personal time, I’ve acquired an impressive sphere of influence when it comes to social media communications, with over 4,000 Twitter followers and amassing 2.4 million tweet impressions in the month of August 2021 alone.

My specific skill set in satire attracts a variety of readers, from those seeking humor to enlightenment. I pride myself on keeping abreast of current issues and events to incorporate into my daily communications and find that my expansive travel history and experience living in the UK and The Bahamas have enabled me to effectively communicate with different audiences.

Although my business abilities are undeniable thanks particularly to my time management and organizational skills, I aim to bring a human aspect to the business world using empathy, humor and education.

Experience

Blogger

  •  1OAK Bahamas
  •  Jan 2021 - Present

I've brought website traffic to a brand new real estate company by blogging my personal real estate experiences as well as self-help blogs for young people interested in real estate. My blogs have generated the most activity on the site so far, with over 400 views on individual posts and over 2,300 reads in total.

Airbnb Superhost

  •  Airbnb
  •  Jul 2019 - Present

My communication skills have proven to be beneficial in achieving Superhost status in my role as a rental property manager for several vacation homes throughout The Bahamas. With over 50 reviews in the past two years, I've been rated 5 stars for communication from every single guest.

Blogger

  •  Island Living Real Estate, The Bahamas
  •  Apr 2015 - Jul 2017

I wrote biweekly blogs for a local real estate company on general real estate topics, to attract readers with a wide range of interests from mortgages to local events.

Transcriber

  •  Quicksilver Media
  •  Oct 2019 - Oct 2019

This was a one-off project for a marketing company, yet it was one of my most sentimental roles to date. I was contacted to transcribe a documentary on Hurricane Dorian for a foreign company, as a number of interviewees were speaking in Bahamian Creole English. Although it was a deeply saddening topic, I was honored that my research history in this topic and experience from my Linguistics degree were able to be put to use to bring awareness to the devastation experienced in the Bahamian islands in September 2019.

Event Staff

  •  Manhattan Events, UK
  •  Jan 2016 - Oct 2017

This role involved not only preparing event venues and promoting future events to attendees, but also promoting future events on social media to attract university students.

Administration Assistant

  •  Confidential, UK
  •  Sep 2016 - Jun 2018

My time at the nursery was by far one of my favorite jobs to date. In the office, I communicated essential, confidential information to parents and staff alike, while I would also assist in the classrooms and help to foster communication among children ages 3 months to 5 years old. This was the job that instilled in me the importance of empathy, patience and respect when interacting with clients of all ages.

Administration and Compliance Assistant

  •  Confidential, The Bahamas
  •  Aug 2019 - Present

There may be no industry where organizational and time management skills are more intertwined than in banking. I undertake administration and compliance tasks in this role, showcasing my ability to multitask while ensuring that all protocols are followed and no mistakes are made. For that reason, the skills enforced by this job push me to be a perfectionist in all aspects of my professional life.

Project Coordinator

  •  Kent Union
  •  Sep 2018 - Jun 2019

Tasked to establish an Academic Volunteer Project, I acted as the liaison between students, charities and academic schools within my university.

Social Secretary

  •  Kent Dance Society
  •  Sep 2016 - Sep 2018

This was a volunteer role, but a crucial one in my personal and professional development nonetheless. I organized weekly socials for a university society of over 200 members while assisting with show and competition coordination. This role required me to communicate efficiently to my committee, all 200 society members and external stakeholders in order to foster a safe, enjoyable social experience for all. My effort along with that of the rest of my fellow committee members led us to win the Society of the Year award.

Education

BA Business Administration & English Language and Linguistics, First Class Honors

  •  University of Kent
  •  Sep 2016 - Jun 2018

I completed a joint honors Bachelors degree which incorporated Business modules as well as Linguistics modules over a number of disciplines including sociolinguistics, syntax and pragmatics.

Specific areas that I found fascinating in my degree involved the study of language in the media and how language impacts relationships. I find these to be most useful in both my personal and professional life.

My undergraduate dissertation studied the evolution of Bahamian Creole English.

MSc Marketing, First Class Honors

  •  University of Kent
  •  Sep 2018 - Sep 2019

Building on the skills and knowledge gained from my undergraduate degree in Business Administration & English Language and Linguistics, my postgraduate degree in Marketing combined both areas of study.

My MSc dissertation was a study on the relationship between nationality and responses to tourism advertisements in the Bahamian domestic tourism industry.
